The contemporary US report describes the 1965 Lightning Rocket with a metallic red tank, chrome side panels and chrome mudguards. This is a US-market reference rather than a verified finish schedule for every market.

The earlier gold-toned UK illustration claim has not been reverified here. Do not name a gold factory paint solely from a reproduction illustration.
In the photographs
The colour photographs show red or orange-red tanks with chrome side panels and bright metal mudguards. The first two are labelled 1964 examples; the other road bikes have unconfirmed years. This resembles the reported 1965 US metallic-red/chrome treatment but does not authenticate their paint. The Thunderball exhibition photograph is monochrome and cannot establish paint colour.

In the coloured example
The red bodywork and silver mudguards echo the US colour theme. The illustrated tank’s pale outline and dark knee pads do not reproduce the large chrome tank panels visible in the photographs.
Make the details count.
Leave the ivory tank border clean around the burgundy.
Use horizontal blue strokes across the sea.
Give each wall stone a slightly different warm-grey shadow.
