The first R1 was offered in red and white or blue. Yamaha continues to identify the red and white combination with the 1998 launch model.

In the photographs
All five gallery positions use the same 1998 Yamaha museum photograph. It shows the red and white launch scheme: a white tank and upper panels with a red front mudguard, lower fairing and seat. Blue was an alternative first-year scheme, but it is not shown in this gallery. The repeated detail views do not represent additional colour variants.

In the coloured example
The illustration chooses the alternative blue and white direction. Its decorative graphics and exact blue are creative choices. Use the museum photographs for the red and white layout or the separate period reference for the blue scheme.
